All people who get help from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which used to be called Food Stamps, should know the dates and deadlines in order to keep getting help and make sure they meet the requirements to be eligible, so the renewal steps are important.
All users are treated the same in every state where this government program is run, and Florida is no different. This means that if someone wants to keep getting benefits from the program, they must recertify before the deadline.
If the due date has already passed, you will no longer get rewards.
Individuals who are no longer eligible for benefits will not be able to receive them after the recertification deadlines have passed. It is important to remember these times in order to renew your benefits. The Florida Department of Children and Families says that after six months, most households that receive SNAP must apply for recertification and meet interview and verification standards. However, the rules are different for each household. The first month of being eligible is the first month of the certification time.
How do I find out if I need to recertify?
Every state has its own rules about how to renew and let people know when their certificates expire. In Florida, a letter is sent two months before the renewal date, and if you have a MyACCESS account, you will also get an email notice.
Once you get the notice, there are a few ways to recertify your SNAP benefits in the state:
- Online: Go to Florida MyACCESS and log in. Then, follow the steps to get reinstated.
- Letter: Fill out the forms that came with the notice and send them to the local SNAP office.
- In person or over the phone: Go to or call your local office and fill out the paperwork with your social worker.
