Former Oregon offensive line signee Alai Kalaniuvalu flips again, signs with BYU

A third recruit from Oregon’s class of 2025 is leaving the state.

Alai Kalaniuvalu, a four-star offensive lineman who alternated between BYU and UO last season, inked a contract with BYU on Tuesday.

According to the 247Sporsts Composite, Kalaniuvalu, ranked No. 6 among interior offensive linemen and No. 109 overall, is the third member of Oregon’s 2025 recruiting class to leave the school and the second to do so without enrolling. Additionally, quarterback Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele enrolled in December but transferred to Cal in January, and receiver Dallas Wilson was released from his financial aid contract and joined with Florida.

On July 10, Kalaniuvalu committed to Oregon, but on November 2, he switched to BYU. He won’t be enrolled until 2026. On December 5, he signed with UO then changed his mind once more.

After starting his career at Utah’s Timpview High, the 6-foot-4, 311-pound Kalaniuvalu played his junior and senior years at Bishop Gorman High School in Nevada. He was a finalist for the high school player of the year award in the 2024 Polynesian Bowl.

Kalaniuvalu’s departure had little impact on Oregon’s 2025 recruiting class rating, which stayed fifth among high school prospects in the 247Sports Composite and fell from second to third when transfers were taken into account.
