MISSION, Texas (Border Report) — Over 400 Texas National Guard troops, along with necessary equipment, began arriving in the Rio Grande Valley on Monday evening to support border security initiatives. This development comes as the Texas Governor Greg Abbott intensifies efforts to control illegal immigration at the southern border.

ICE Arrests 956 in Nationwide Raids

In parallel, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a nationwide raid on Sunday, resulting in the arrest of 956 individuals. These raids are part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal immigration and enforce federal immigration laws across the U.S.

Governor Abbott Deploys Troops to the Border

Governor Greg Abbott confirmed on Monday that he had deployed the troops from military bases in Fort Worth and Houston to assist U.S. Border Patrol agents on the ground in South Texas. These additional forces will work to deter illegal crossings into the U.S. and support federal efforts to secure the border.

Abbott’s plan includes the use of military aircraft as well, such as C-130 transport planes and Chinook helicopters, which were dispatched to aid in the mission. Some of the troops had already arrived at McAllen International Airport by Monday evening, according to KVEO News. From there, they were transported by bus and accompanied by Border Patrol agents to designated deployment areas.

Strategic Deployment and Border Force Expansion

Governor Abbott emphasized the collaboration between Texas and the federal government under the leadership of President Donald Trump.

Abbott, who established the Texas Tactical Border Force in 2023, noted that these specially trained soldiers have been deployed to hot spots along the Texas-Mexico border. They will be actively engaged in a variety of border security operations aimed at curbing the flow of illegal crossings. Abbott further stated that additional personnel are urgently needed in the Rio Grande Valley, one of the most heavily trafficked areas for illegal immigration.

Texas’ Operation Lone Star Initiative

The Texas Tactical Border Force is part of Texas’ broader Operation Lone Star, a state-funded border security initiative designed to address the ongoing border crisis. Abbott has also requested that the federal government reimburse the state for over $11 billion spent on border security under this initiative since its inception in 2021.

For nearly four years, Texas has been leading the charge in border enforcement, particularly in response to the Biden administration’s handling of border security. Abbott criticized the federal government for its perceived lack of action in protecting Americans and controlling illegal immigration. “For the past four years, Texas has held the line against the Biden administration’s border crisis and their refusal to protect Americans,” Abbott said. “Finally, we have a federal government working to end this crisis.

Nationwide Military Deployment to the Border

According to reports from NewsNation, a total of 1,600 Army and Marine personnel have been deployed along the Southwest border since President Trump took office. These military personnel include 500 Marines sent to California and 300 Army soldiers stationed in El Paso, Texas. This coordinated deployment is a direct response to the increasing challenges posed by illegal immigration, human trafficking, and drug smuggling operations across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Looking Ahead: Border Security and Ongoing Operations

The presence of the Texas National Guard and specialized Border Force personnel highlights the state’s commitment to controlling its southern border and enforcing immigration laws. While the deployment of additional troops and resources is expected to strengthen border security, Abbott remains steadfast in his belief that more action is needed at the federal level. He has continued to urge the federal government to support state-led border security measures and reimburse Texas for the significant costs incurred as part of Operation Lone Star.

Despite the ongoing challenges, Abbott remains hopeful that with continued cooperation from federal authorities, particularly under President Trump’s leadership, the Texas-Mexico border can be secured, and illegal immigration can be mitigated.
