MAHANOY CITY – Mahanoy Township Man Jailed After Allegedly Pulling Gun Over Parking Dispute
A Mahanoy Township man faces multiple charges after police say he aimed a gun at a neighbor during an argument over a parking spot.
Jose Peguero, 61, of Foundry Row, was taken into custody Thursday night and later arraigned on misdemeanor counts of simple assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of an instrument of crime with intent.
According to a criminal complaint filed by State Police Trooper Jordan Mroczka, the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on the 900 block of West Centre Street, also known as Foundry Row.
Police say a neighbor overheard Peguero and his son discussing a car parked in Peguero’s usual parking spot, though the spaces on the street are public and not reserved.
The neighbor informed Peguero that the car belonged to her, prompting an argument. During the altercation, Peguero allegedly retrieved a black semi-automatic pistol and pointed it at the woman while shouting.
He left briefly but returned moments later, racking the slide of the pistol and again aiming it at the neighbor. Three family members standing nearby were urged to take cover.
Police arrived on the scene, arrested Peguero, and transported him to Schuylkill County Prison. He was arraigned early Friday by on-call Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer and remains jailed in lieu of 10% of $25,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 30 before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker in Shenandoah.
This incident highlights the dangers of disputes escalating into violence, underscoring the need for de-escalation in neighborhood conflicts.
