If you’re heading to downtown Portland on Saturday morning, June 7 for anything other than the
Rose Festival’s signature event
, be ready for some delays.
Streets through the downtown core, and west to Goose Hollow will close as early as 7 a.m. near and along the parade’s route.
Thousands of spectators are expected to line the sidewalks along the route, and getting to the parade can be difficult, especially if you come in a vehicle and need to find parking. TriMet suggests you use bus lines or MAX, both of which will be running on normal Saturday schedules.
A TriMet spokesperson warned that from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., several bus lines will be detoured to move safely through or around the parade route. Many of these detours will be minor, although a few are more substantial. Riders should plan for trips to take 15-30 minutes longer than they usually would on a typical Saturday on buses that move through the downtown core.
MAX will operate as normal during the parade, but riders should expect crowds and minor delays. MAX crosses the parade route at certain intersections and uses a “bump-through” method where flaggers stop the train as the parade moves through. Flaggers will also direct pedestrians through these intersections to help everyone get where they’re going safely.
