Heat advisory issued for Portland, SW Washington, Columbia River Gorge and Willamette Valley

The

National Weather Service

has issued a heat advisory for the Portland metro area, western and central Columbia River Gorge area, Hood River Valley, southwest Washington and central Willamette Valley on Sunday.

The warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., when temperatures in Portland could reach a high of 94 degrees.

The heat advisory is a preview of even hotter weather ahead. The weather service has also issued an “

extreme heat watch

” warning for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening, when temperatures in Portland could reach 98 degrees.

Sunday’s heat advisory is in effect in areas covered by the tan color, and the extreme heat watch expected Tuesday and Wednesday is the darker brown.
