PLANTATION, FLA. – A driver led Florida Highway Patrol troopers on a chaotic chase that ended in a fatal multi-car crash in Plantation, killing him and injuring several others, authorities said.
The incident began when the driver ran from authorities on the Florida Turnpike about 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to FHP, the individual was driving north on University Drive’s southbound lane, near North Marcano Boulevard.
While driving into oncoming traffic, the subject’s car collided with another vehicle, resulting in a chain reaction involving two more vehicles.
The subject’s car exploded in flames as a result of the several crashes, locking him inside.
“In pursuit of a vehicle, I’m advising it crashed, and it’s now on fire,” the Broadcastify police scanner read. “We have one unconscious male in the truck. We need to be rescued. The suspect’s vehicle was smoking, but there were no open flames.
In total, four automobiles were involved. The other drivers survived, some with minor injuries. However, the person was pronounced deceased on the scene.
A neighbour shared a mobile video with 7News of the wrecked automobile smouldering and gushing fluids after it was T-boned by another motorist.
One woman, whose relationship with the subject is yet unknown, was spotted crying as FHP troopers sought to search the vehicle.
