High-Speed Pursuit of Robbery Suspect Caught on Camera in L.A.

The suspect was taken into custody in West Los Angeles after being pursued by police of the California Highway Patrol in the Los Angeles County area on Thursday afternoon. The pursuit began in the Santa Clarita Valley and continued through the San Fernando Valley and downtown Los Angeles until the suspect was finally apprehended.

Before twelve o’clock midday, the pursuit started along the southbound 5 Freeway near the Lyons exit in Stevenson Ranch. Officers believed that the driver of a white SUV was a suspect in a robbery, so they pursued the vehicle.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the officers started following the motorist due to the fact that the individual, who has connections to a case that is being investigated by the Bakersfield Police Department, did not yield.

“Earlier (on Thursday), the California Highway Patrol was notified to be on the lookout for a white SUV that was involved in a robbery,” said Officer Isabel Diaz of the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle driven by the suspect reached speeds of more than one hundred miles per hour while traveling recklessly on the 210 Freeway in Sylmar and Pacoima before arriving in the downtown area of Los Angeles.

In the midst of the increasing volume of traffic, the vehicle managed to slip through the shoulder of the westbound 10 Freeway and, at one point, collided with the rear of another SUV that was parked close to Alameda Street.

Nearly an hour after the pursuit began, the male driver eventually surrendered and was brought into custody on the 10 Freeway at Overland Avenue in West Los Angeles. This occurred after the front tires of the vehicle failed to function properly.

During the time that authorities were wrapping up the investigation, there was a significant backlog of traffic along the westbound 10 Freeway.
