The Indiana State Police Bremen Post All Crimes Policing Team conducted two saturation patrols over the weekend, targeting impaired drivers and criminal activity through traffic stops.
The first patrol took place Friday night, January 24, in North Webster, Kosciusko County. Nine troopers, led by a squad sergeant, arrested two individuals for operating while intoxicated and seven others on 16 criminal charges. The operation also led to a pursuit in which three suspects fled on foot.
All were later apprehended, including one individual tracked more than two miles by ISP K-9 Daisy and another located over a mile away by a Winona Lake K-9. Troopers issued five citations and 37 warnings during the patrol.
On Saturday night, January 25, the team shifted its focus to Elkhart in Elkhart County. One person was arrested for operating while intoxicated, while five others faced a total of 17 criminal charges. Another pursuit unfolded when a female suspect armed with a firearm jumped from a fleeing vehicle. She discarded the weapon before running, but K-9 Daisy successfully located it during an article search.
The driver, who continued fleeing after the passenger exited, later crashed into a parked vehicle in a residential area and attempted to escape on foot before being apprehended.
Troopers issued nine citations, 29 warnings, and two crash reports during the Elkhart patrol.
Saturation patrols are a law enforcement tactic used to enhance police presence in a specific area, often in response to concerns about high crime rates, traffic violations, or public safety. These operations are typically carried out in areas known for a higher frequency of criminal activities, including drug offenses, impaired driving, and other illegal behaviors.

According to the Indiana State Police, the goal of these patrols was to improve public safety, reduce crashes, and curb dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding and driving under the influence. In addition to traffic enforcement, the patrols also focused on deterring criminal activity, including theft, assault, and drug-related offenses.
The saturation patrols resulted in a series of arrests across various offenses. Law enforcement officials reported multiple arrests for driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, and drug possession. In addition, several individuals were arrested on outstanding warrants, with officers also uncovering illicit items during routine vehicle stops.
“We made several significant arrests, including individuals wanted for outstanding warrants,” said [Officer Name]. “Our officers are trained to identify criminal behavior quickly, and these patrols allowed us to take proactive steps in keeping the community safe.”
While the operation has drawn praise from many residents who appreciate the heightened police presence, there are some concerns about the impact of such measures on everyday citizens. Some locals have voiced their opinions about the balance between safety and privacy, questioning whether increased patrols might lead to racial profiling or over-policing in certain areas.
What’s Next for the Indiana State Police?
As a result of the success of the saturation patrols, the Indiana State Police plan to continue such operations in areas where criminal activity and traffic violations remain high. These operations will likely be expanded and adjusted to address specific needs in different communities across the state.
The recent saturation patrols conducted by the Indiana State Police have yielded promising results, with multiple arrests and a marked increase in police visibility across high-risk areas. These efforts are part of the ongoing work to improve public safety, reduce criminal activity, and ensure that all motorists obey the law. While concerns about policing methods exist, the operation underscores the ISP’s commitment to proactive law enforcement strategies.
As the state moves forward with these initiatives, residents can expect to see continued efforts by the ISP to tackle crime, improve road safety, and maintain a sense of security across Indiana’s communities.
