IRS Sets New Tax Deadline: May 1 Announced for Select Taxpayers

These people have more time to file their forms, but the tax for the fiscal year 2024–2025 was due more than two weeks ago.

Most of the time, you have to ask the IRS in person before the deadline if you need more time to file your taxes.

The IRS does, however, sometimes give a blanket delay to a certain group of people without them having to ask for it before the deadline because of unplanned events that affect a lot of people.

We will not be able to get more time after the IRS tax date.

In most cases, you need to ask for an extension before the tax deadline if you need one to file your taxes.

It’s important to remember that the extension only moves up the limit for filing; everyone still has to pay their taxes by the due date.

People who were given extra time to file their taxes this year have until October 15 to do so. If you didn’t file by April 15 and were not given an extension, you will be charged a “Failure to File” penalty.

The penalty you get is based on how much tax you owe the IRS and how long you wait to pay and file your taxes.

There is a penalty fee that you need to pay, and the IRS strongly suggests that you file as soon as possible.

Extra time for these people until May 1st

If you live in Georgia and still haven’t paid your taxes, you’re in luck. Most people will need to ask for a personal extension.

An IRS statement on delays says that everyone and every business that was affected by Hurricane Helene, which began on September 24, 2024, has until May 1 to file their tax returns.

Also, because of the terrible accident, all households in all 159 Georgia counties were able to get tax breaks. The extension was announced in October of last year.

In Georgia, you can still ask for more time to file your taxes if you think you will need it after the new date on May 1.

If you want to automatically extend the time you have to file your U.S. individual income tax return, you must use Form 4868 and send it in the mail. You cannot apply online. Before May 1, you need to do this.

Farmer get big tax breaks

After Hurricane Helene, Georgia made sure that farmers got a lot of the help that was available. A big chunk of the state’s GDP comes from farming industries. In the United States, Georgia grows a lot of peanuts, eggs, and chickens.

People who didn’t have to deal with natural disasters should pay and file their taxes on time, even if people in Georgia were able to file their returns later.

Even if you can’t pay the full amount, the IRS says you should file your taxes, pay what you can, and set up a legal payment plan with them to settle your tax debt. T

It’s important to always let the IRS know about your finances so that you don’t have to make more payments or pay interest.
