Portland avoided setting a new daily heat record Monday, reaching an unofficial high of 93 degrees.
This might be the last we see of highs in the 90s – at least in the upcoming forecasts.
The National Weather Service says the region is undergoing a steady transition to cooler weather as onshore flow strengthens and the ridge of high pressure we’ve been under shifts eastward.
Tuesday will be sunny, and still warm, but the high of about 88 should begin to provide some relief.
Overnight lows will also help out a bit as they ease back down into the low 50s during the remainder of the work week.
Wednesday may see some light cloud cover as high temps lower to near 81 degrees.
Thursday will start with clouds, then gradually clear to mostly sunny skies. The high will cool even more to a temp more in line with early June averages. The high should reach the mid 70s.
Extended forecasts are showing a mix of clouds and sunshine Friday and through the weekend. High temps will stay in the low-to-mid 70s. No rain is in the upcoming weekend forecast except for possible drizzle along the coast.
Hot temperatures continue into many parts of the Columbia Basin and Kittitas Valleys through Tuesday evening. Remember to keep hydrated and follow any other necessary steps for the heat.
