It Was Expected That Trump Would Sign an Order Ending All Government Benefits for Illegal Immigrants

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump is likely to sign an order that will end government benefits for illegal immigrants.

All government agencies will be told by the order to find all federally funded programs that help illegal immigrants financially and “take corrective action.” The order is meant to make sure that any government money going to cities and states “won’t be used to support sanctuary policies or help illegal immigration.”

Also, better eligibility checks will be required to make sure that no one in the U.S. illegally gets government benefits.

Trump will show that he’s “committed to safeguarding federal public health benefits for American citizens who are truly in need, including individuals with disabilities and veterans.”

“The surge in illegal immigration, enabled by the previous Administration, is siphoning dollars and essential services from American citizens while state and local budgets grow increasingly strained,” a White House fact sheet says.

The sheet said that the House Homeland Security Committee thought that taxpayers might have to pay as much as $451 billion to care for illegal aliens and runaways who came to the U.S. in January 2021.

Like police searches and other steps Trump has taken to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the U.S., this order is part of his crackdown on immigration.

A group called the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) said that 20 million illegal immigrants and their children cost American taxpayers at least $182 billion a year. This was reported by the White House.

That number includes $66.5 billion in costs for the federal government and an extra $115.6 billion for state and local governments.
