John Calipari announced Thursday that Jai Lucas and Tony Barbee switched roles on the coaching staff.
Calipari says Barbee moved to an off-court assistant coaching role while Lucas moved up to fill the spot left open by Barbee. Barbee, who has been with Calipari in Lexington since the 2014-15 season, will now be the associate head coach.
Barbee will focus on game planning and film breakdown to help with preparation.
Meanwhile, Lucas moves to a role where he will be an on-court coach and an active recruiter for Kentucky with Joel Justus and Bruiser Flint.
Lucas’ impact at Kentucky is already being felt. Five-star big man Daimion Collins, who Lucas primarily recruiting at Texas, is expected to pick Kentucky Saturday.
