“After nine
‘Jeopardy Masters’
episodes, and more than 1,000 clues, it all comes down to one,” host Ken Jennings said shortly before viewers and the
three finalists learned who was the winner
of the 2025
“Jeopardy Masters”
tournament, a victory that brought $500,000 in prize money.
But before that, two semifinal games determined which three players would move on to compete in the finals. And here’s a spoiler warning: if you haven’t yet watched, and don’t want to know who won “Jeopardy Masters” this year, proceed with caution.
The final four games of the 2025 “Jeopardy Masters” began with two semifinal faceoffs, which featured Victoria Groce, who won last year’s “Jeopardy Masters,” competing with Isaac Hirsch and Juveria Zaheer.
Groce won that game, which guaranteed her a spot in the finals, In the second semifinal game,
Vancouver’s Yogesh Raut,
who finished second in last year’s “Jeopardy Masters,” competed against Hirsch and Zaheer, and he emerged as the winner.
Then it was time for the finals, two games in which the top three players, Groce, Raut, and Zaheer would play back-to-back games.
When it was time for “Final Jeopardy” in the first of the final rounds, the category was Peoples of the World.
The clue: “Heard often in the film, ‘The Conqueror, this name of a once-nomadic people comes from a Latin word used for Hell.”
Zaheer was in minus territory, so couldn’t participate. Groce was in the lead, with 21,200 points, and Raut had 13,000 points.
Raut’s answer, “Who are Tatars,” was close, but incorrect. Raut wagered everything, leaving him with zero points.
Groce also had an incorrect response, with “Who are the Mongols?” The correct answer, Jennings said, was the Tartars.
Groce wagered 6,800, leaving her with a total of 14,300 points.
For the second game of the finals, and the last one in the 2025 “Jeopardy Masters” tournmant, Jennings said “In a two-game total point affair, anything can happen. This is not over yet.”
Before beginning “Double Jeopardy,” Jennings asked the players who they wanted to thank. Raut thanked members of his family, and gave a shout-out to people who helped him run practice games, including his teammates in Portland.
In “Double Jeopardy,” both Zaheer and Raut wagered their totals on “Daily Double” questions, and both had correct responses, adding to the roller-coaster suspense, and increasing their scores.
When it was time for “Final Jeopardy,” Groce was in an unusual position, in third place, with 11,000 points. Zaheer was in second, with 20,800, and Raut was in the lead, with 36,000 points.
The “Final Jeopardy” category was Paintings. The clue: “The artist saw this subject as a kindred spirit and in 1890 depicted him with flowers used to treat heart disease.”
Groce had the correct response, with “What is Dr. Gachet?”, referring to Vincent Van Gogh’s famous painting. She bet everything, boosting her points to 22,000. Adding in her points from the first finals round, Groce had a combined total of 36,400, which put her in the lead — for the moment.
Zaheer also had the right answer, and wagered 16,000, increasing her total to 36,800, which gave her a 400 point lead over Groce.
“Look how close this is,” Jennings said.
Host Ken Jennings presents Yogesh Raut with the Trebek Trophy, after Raut won the 2025 “Jeopardy Masters” event.
Disney
Raut also had the correct answer, and wagered 5,601, raising his point total to 41,601.
“In an extraordinarily close finish, Yogesh emerges as the winner of this year’s ‘Jeopardy Masters,’” Jennings announced.
