John Calipari Says Lynn Bowden is the “Ultimate Competitor”

Earlier this week, Lynn Bowden tweeted at Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari about joining the basketball team after the football season.

While Bowden was a standout basketball player in high school, his impact and future are on the football field and the Wildcats are hoping to be playing football until late December.

Bowden averaged 24.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game during his senior season at Warren Harding High School in Youngstown, Ohio.

John Calipari met with the media Sunday evening to discuss the basketball matchup with Utah Valley State. Before ending his presser, Cal was asked about Bowden joining the basketball team and he had high praise for Kentucky’s do it all athlete.

“If he’s here, he’d probably start for us,” Calipari joked. “I think Mark [Stoops] would kill me if I said, ‘yes, bring him over.’ I don’t want to jinx them, if they get one more win there, they will be playing for a long time.”

Calipari loves the competitive nature Bowden has and how he will do anything that’s best for the team.

“He’s a competitor. He rolled his ankle so bad, I thought he was out for the game. He was mad that he rolled his ankle because he had to come out for three plays. Like rolled it and went back in and won that football game [Missouri game] a couple of weeks ago that they had to win, and stayed in the game and won the game. He’s the ultimate competitor, I’ll tell you that and he’s also a guy who’s spirit brings everyone around him up.”
