John Calipari wants the One-and Done Rule to End

Despite being the king of coaching one-and-done talent for the last decade, John Calipari wants the rule to end.

On Friday, Mac Engel of the Star-Telegram released comments from Calipari about wanting the one-and-done rule to come to an end. Calipari spoke at TCU’s basketball clinic on Friday and he sat down afterward to talk about the current state of college basketball.

“Kids should be able to go out of high school. That’s not our deal. That’s between the NBA and the Player’s Association,” Calipari said. “Don’t put restrictions on kids.”

In the article with the Star-Telegram, Calipari said he met with the NBA Player’s Association a week ago about creating a combine for high school juniors. The UK head coach also added that he thinks agents should have more involvement with high school athletes.

“The players and families need to know, here are the ones who should be thinking about the NBA, and here are the ones who should not,” Calipari said. “That’s why you need a combine.”

Most people would be shocked to believe that Calipari wants something that has made him so successful to come to an end, but he’s never been a fan of the rule. Calipari has always thought players should be able to leave straight out of high school and personally, I feel the same way.

Don’t put restrictions on kids’: Calipari’s one-and-done stance is dead on.
