Former Kentucky Basketball Coach Eddie Sutton Dies at 84

Eddie Sutton, a former men’s basketball coach at the University of Kentucky, passed away Saturday. He was 84 years old.

Bob Holt of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette confirmed the passing of the Hall of Fame coach.

During his career, Sutton led three trips to the Final Four, including Arkansas in 1978 and his alma mater, Oklahoma State in 1995 and 2004.

Sutton coached Kentucky from 1985-1989 before NCAA rules violations forced him to resign as UK’s coach in 1989.

The Naismith Basketball Memorial Hall of Fame announced Sutton as a member of the 2020 class on April 3rd. He will be inducted into the Hall of Fame later this year.

Overall, Sutton totaled 806 wins in his coaching career, including 26 NCAA Tournament appearances in 37 seasons.
