For the first time since Kentucky’s comeback win in Gainesville last March, UK basketball played an official game.

Kentucky tipped off the 2020-21 college basketball season Wednesday night at Rupp Arena in game one of the Bluegrass Showcase, giving Big Blue Nation their first look at John Calipari’s new crop of talent.

The Wildcats hit their stride midway through the first half and never looked back, defeating Morehead State, 81-45 in front of a small number of fans and cardboard cutouts.

Freshman wing BJ Boston led the way for Kentucky, totaling 15 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Additionally, Boston grabbed 7 rebounds in 32 minutes of action.

Devin Askew (12), Terrence Clarke (12), and Davion Mintz (10) joined Boston in double figures. Freshman forwards Cam’Ron Fletcher, and Isaiah Jackson added nine points each.

Senior forward Olivier Sarr didn’t score the first basket of his Kentucky career until the 15:10 mark of the second half. He finished with 8 points on 4-of-6 shooting in 22 minutes of play.

Kentucky returns to action Sunday vs. Richmond at Rupp Arena. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. ET. on ESPN.
