Kevin Knox Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Freshman forward Kevin Knox delivered one of the best road performances in the history of Kentucky basketball Saturday night in an 83-76 win at No. 7 West Virginia. Knox poured in a career-high 34 points on 11-of-17 shots, including a 5-of-8 clip from three-point range. The monster performance led to Knox being named SEC Freshman of the Week.

John Calipari has been begging Knox to become “that guy”, the one that leads the team. The UK head coach forced Knox to work with the big guys when SEC play began and as a result, a more complete, tougher version of the freshman has emerged to carry the Wildcats.

Prior to his strong outing on Saturday, Knox scored 19 points in a 78-65 win vs. Mississippi State at Rupp Arena last Tuesday. He went a perfect 4-of-4 from the three-point line against the Bulldogs.

For the week, Knox averaged 26.5 points per game and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 69.5 percent from the floor. The freshman forward was lights out from downtown; connecting on 9-of-12 three-point shots, good enough for a 75 percent clip.

Knox is averaging 20 points per game over his last five games, a stretch that fans hope to see continue. If that continues, along with his three-point shooting, he will continue to be “that guy” for the Wildcats.
