A longtime Oregon high school girls basketball coach has pleaded guilty to sexual abuse.
Roy “Stub” Travis, 71, is set to be sentenced July 22. On Monday in Deschutes County Circuit Court, Travis pleaded guilty to four counts of second degree sexual abuse and one count of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 years of age.
According to the plea deal, Travis will likely spend 36 months in prison, followed by 60 months of supervision, and he will have to register as a sex offender.
Travis coached at Crane Union High School for 28 years in two stints: 1995-2002 and 2004-2023. In that time, he coached the Mustangs to a combined 570-154 record and won state championships in 2004, 2020, 2021 and 2022. He has the sixth-most wins of any Oregon high school girls basketball coach.
He was also the football coach at Crane from 2000-2022, coaching the Mustangs to a combined 167-61 record.

Travis was originally indicted on 21 counts of second-degree sexual abuse and two counts of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 years of age. The April 26, 2024 indictment alleges Travis had sexual contact with a former student-athlete at Crane High School who was under 18 years old on multiple occasions from June 1, 2022, to Dec. 18, 2022.
The abuse took place in Harney, Deschutes and Umatilla counties, the court document says.
Travis was originally facing a maximum of 21 years in prison, along with a fine of $506,250, the plea deal states.
According to a representative from Crane Union High School, Travis also resigned as groundskeeper in June 2023 after the district became aware of the sex abuse allegations.
“The District is dedicated to ensuring that all students are safe at school and we take all allegations of inappropriate conduct seriously,” reads a statement from the school district.
