Kentucky junior guard Maci Morris had a career night in a loss to No. 8 South Carolina on Sunday afternoon in Columbia, as she did something only three players have done in UK history.

The sharpshooter from Pineville, Ky., poured in a career-high 35 points on 13-of-23 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. The 35 points tops her previous career high of 29 she scored vs. Arizona State last season.

Morris is the first player to score 30 points in a game since Makayla Epps scored 31 vs. South Carolina during the 2017 SEC Tournament and it’s the first time a UK player has scored 35 points since Epps dropped 42 points vs. Mississippi State on February 12, 2015. Overall, Morris is just the third player in program history to score 35 more points in an SEC game, joining Epps and Valerie Still.

Morris’ 5-for-9 performance from deep marks the fourth time she has hit five or more three’s in a game this season. She now has 166 made three pointers for her career, which moves her into sixth place on UK’s all time list for made three point field goals. Morris needs nine more three’s to tie Stacey Reed for fifth place.

The 35 point effort brings her career total to 1,129 career points, which ranks 26th on Kentucky’s all time scoring list. She needs just six points to move into 25th place.

Morris is in the midst of a hot streak; scoring 20+ points in the last four games and nine times total this season. She will look to extend both of those when Kentucky takes on Ole Miss in Oxford on Thursday night at 8:30. The game will be available on the SEC Network.
