Man accused of vandalizing Portland ICE building, assaulting federal officers

During his arrest, a 31-year-old man is accused of kicking or grabbing five federal officers after damaging an electronic card reader at the driveway entry to the U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement building in South Portland early on Sunday.

Beaverton resident August Dean Gordon made an appearance Monday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Portland on charges of assaulting a federal officer and causing damage to government property.

According to a federal document, he was seen on surveillance footage around 3:14 a.m. jerking off a card reader from a pole outside the ICE office. According to the affidavit, he was dressed in a black glove, black elbow pads, black goggles, a black helmet, and black foam duct taped to his torso.

According to the affidavit, Gordon kicked one officer in the shin, kicked another in the forearm, and grabbed the genitalia of three other officers while he was being arrested, injuring five policemen.

According to the affidavit, he told authorities during an interview that he clutched at anything he could as his head was being pulled down and he was blinded.

While the case is still continuing, Gordon was released on his own recognizance by U.S. Magistrate Judge Jolie A. Russo.

She prohibited Gordon from carrying any kind of weapon, including lasers and fireworks, and from accessing a certain area surrounding the ICE headquarters on South Macadam Avenue.

Gordon is among the more than 20 individuals detained amid the continuing protests against President Trump’s immigration policies at the office.
