A man from Wisconsin pleaded guilty to having several parts that can be used to make chemical weapons. This happened only a few months after he was sentenced for having dangerous devices.
James Morgan, who is 31 years old, made his plea in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He was facing federal charges of having chemical weapon precursors that were not meant for peaceful purposes. The deal was announced by acting U.S. District Attorney Richard G. Frohling in a press release. The person who agreed to the deal could get up to life in jail, among other punishments. Morgan claimed that he kept a stash of drugs and other items in a storage unit that the FBI searched in December 2023 after getting a warrant.
Morgan himself said what they found was “scary.”
In theĀ plea agreement, Morgan, who went by the online name “Karactus Blome,” admitted to having “chemical weapon precursors,” which are things that can be put together to make dangerous chemical weapons. It was this case that FBI officers found bottles of calcium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid. These chemicals can be mixed to make chlorine gas.
Court papers say that Morgan had a number of social media accounts where he showed off his chemistry skills and passion, as well as his anti-government views. In texts that were used in court papers, Morgan said, “What I have is scary, even though I don’t have an MG42 right now.” It’s not just guns, either.
He also said, “I have two completely legal chemicals: calcium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid. When they mix, they make a lot of chlorine gas very quickly.” Some old-school WWI music. It can still work if your enemy isn’t ready for it.
Morgan allegedly talked about his “enemy” with his lover through text messages in May 2023. In those messages, he said that if 20 government agents were “coming for the guns,” he would “defeat them without firing a single shot.”
The FBI Lab came to the conclusion that Morgan’s chemical load could have caused “serious, long-lasting health effects, an impaired ability to escape, and even death.”
Morgan had dealt with the federal government before this new plea deal. He was given a two-year federal prison term in December 2024 after pleading guilty to having destructive devices. The case was heard in the Western District of Wisconsin. Morgan was working on more than just chemical weapons in that case. He was also making flare throwers and a “device that shoots sulfuric acid.”
Morgan is set to be jailed on August 1 for the chemical weapons precursors.
