A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with
an east Portland fire that injured several people,
authorities said Friday.
Shaun Michael Szwarz has been arrested on accusations of arson, reckless endangering and criminal mischief, Portland Fire & Rescue said.
The fire, which drew an extensive response from Portland and Gresham fire agencies, was reported at 5:53 a.m. Friday at a three-story apartment building near East Burnside Street and 104th Avenue. Fire crews extinguished the fire, which went to four alarms, after about an hour.
Residents of the building said man who also lived in the building threw a Molotov cocktail into the complex Friday morning. The building quickly caught fire, and at least four residents jumped from upper floor windows, the fire bureau said.
Two people injured in the incident remained hospitalized with serious injuries including second- and third-degree burns, inhalation injuries, fractured vertebrae, and a broken ankle, the fire bureau said.
