Man Feigned Ignorance After Killing Pregnant Girlfriend and Daughter Who Died Months After Emergency C-Section

For killing his pregnant girlfriend and their daughter, who was born but only lived for four months, a man in Georgia will spend the rest of his life in prison.

According to a press release from the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office, Diamonte Haithcoats, 24, was found guilty on Friday of five crimes related to the deaths of Shaniyah Rodriguez, 20, and their baby Milliani Rodriguez. The crimes included two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault-family violence, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The DA said that Haithcoats was given two life sentences without the chance of parole by Dekalb County Superior Court Judge Yolanda Parker-Smith right after the decision.

Around 5:45 a.m. on February 2, 2023, cops from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office were called to a condo complex on Old Singleton Lane in Clarkston, an Atlanta neighborhood. There had been a shooting. Someone in the neighborhood heard shooting and went outside to find out what was going on. He found a woman with a gunshot wound to the head who was later identified as Rodriguez.

When the paramedics got there, they rushed Rodriguez to the hospital, where doctors did an emergency caesarean section to deliver her baby. After two days, Rodriguez passed away. He passed away on June 19, 2023.

Seven rifle shell casings were found at the spot by investigators. A witness said he saw a dark-coloured SUV drive off after the shooting. A dark blue Hyundai Palisade was seen leaving the building by street cameras. They found the empty Palisade a few days later. Someone took it.

Police say Rodriguez’s phone was connected to the car’s Bluetooth just minutes before the 911 call. When the detectives turned on her phone, it instantly linked to the Palisade.

Later, detectives found out that Rodriguez had told a friend that her relationship with Haithcoats was ending and she was afraid for his safety. Haithcoats was also sent to the scene via his cell phone.

A courtroom report from Atlanta ABC station WSB said that Adrienne Rodriguez, who is the mother of Shaniyah Rodriguez and the grandmother of Millani, testified at the trial.

She began to think Haithcoats was guilty a few days after the murder, so she called him and recorded the conversation so that the jury could hear it.

“Monte, who did this?” It is said that Adrienne Rodriguez asked.

“I don’t know.” “I have no idea,” Haithcoats said.

The sad mother and grandmother broke down in tears when she talked about how hard she worked to save Milliani.

She is said to have said through tears, “I tried everything to fix that mistake.” “That child should have been here.”
