On Thursday, the SEC announced the plan to play a 10-game, SEC-only schedule for the 2020 college football season.

The traditional SEC football season includes 8 conference games and four non-conference games, so this will be new to all schools in the league for 2020, as the conference continues to monitor changes with the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the announcement, the Kentucky-Louisville rivalry will be put on hold for the 2020 season, disappointing news for fans around the Bluegrass.

That said, Mark Stoops supports the SEC’s decision to play a conference only schedule this season, beginning Saturday, September 26.

“I’m glad there is a plan in place so we can move forward with preparations for the season.  I understand and support the decision to begin on September 26. Everyone would like to play a full schedule, including our rivalry game with Louisville, but this timing and format gives us our best opportunity to adjust to these unique circumstances.”
