The Mississippi State women’s basketball program has a head coaching vacancy after Vic Schaefer left Starkville to accept the same position at Texas.
Kentucky coach Matthew Mitchell has been a hot name on social media since the news of Schaefer to Texas broke. Mitchell is an alum of Mississippi State and Athletic Director John Cohen worked at UK when Mitchell was initially hired in 2007.
The UK head coach took to social media Sunday night to say he’s happy at Kentucky and will be the head coach there, essentially shooting down rumors of interest in the Mississippi State opening.
“Hey Big Blue Nation, let me say this loud and proud for all to hear: I’m the head coach at Kentucky and my heart, family and life are devoted to UK,” Mitchell wrote on Twitter. “I will be there for as long as they will have me! I want to make that CRYSTAL clear! Grateful to God that I am allowed the privilege!”
