Rescuers were called to the scene of a collision between a TriMet MAX train and a bicyclist on Wednesday afternoon.
The cyclist did not survive.
The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. near Southeast Division Street and Eighth Avenue after barriers came down at the intersection to allow a Union Pacific train to pass, according to TriMet.
The cyclist — a man whom authorities have not identified —entered the tracks while the barriers were still down and was struck by the MAX train going in the other direction.
It is confirmed that this is a single individual that unfortunately did not survive the impact. Multnomah County Medical Examiner has been contacted. Appropriate law enforcement agency will take the scene over shortly.
TriMet Orange line trains won’t be running between Lincoln Street/SW 3rd Avenue and Clinton Street/SE 12th Avenue for several hours, but a shuttle service will operate in the disrupted area. The Yellow line may experience delays, said Tia York, a TriMet spokesperson.
No one else was injured in the crash.
