Memorial Day 2025: Events, ceremonies for the Monday holiday

The annual commemoration of Memorial Day brings local and regional events and ceremonies honoring members of the armed forces who have fallen defending the United States.

Here’s a list of Memorial Day services, parades and community events scheduled for the holiday.

Events

National cemeteries, including Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Fort Stevens National in Warrenton and Roseburg National will be open for gravesite memorials, placing of flags or flowers by individuals or groups. Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs (Salem)

This state agency hosts an event on the state Capitol grounds honoring all the nation’s fallen service members. The event includes remarks from veteran leaders, state officials and honored guests. There will also be the singing of the National Anthem and presentation of colors. Seating is limited. Guests can bring their own chairs.

Veterans Memorial Park (Beaverton)

VFW Post 124 in Beaverton hosts a ceremony to honor the service and sacrifice of the U.S. Armed Forces. The event includes live music, a military aircraft flyover, and a POW/MIA ceremony. Seating is first come, first served.

Vietnam Veterans of Oregon Memorial

The program includes a reading of names, flyover, posting of colors, rifle salute and speaker Norm Maves Jr., all in memory of those who served, died and are still missing in action in the Vietnam War.

Fort Vancouver National Historic Site

The Community Military Appreciation Committee presents Vancouver’s Memorial Day Observance. This morning of remembrance, unity and appreciation honors those who have served and continue to serve our nation. The ceremony includes guest speakers, honor and color guards, cannon and howitzer salutes, bagpipes, and live music by the Vancouver Community Concert Band.

Oregon Korean War Memorial (Wilsonville)

A brief ceremony will be held on Memorial Day to honor the fallen.
