Miami Resident Accused of Stabbing Victim During Incident at Homestead Clinic

HOMESTEAD, Florida –

A Miami man is facing a charge of second-degree attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a 47-year-old in the neck at a plasma donation clinic in Homestead last week, police confirmed in an arrest report Tuesday.

The 47-year-old victim told police that McKinnon approached him and said, “Told you I was going to stab you,” before attacking him with a knife, police wrote in the report.

Moments later, police said the victim stood up and fought back to avoid being stabbed again.

Clinic security intervened and broke up the altercation, but both the victim and McKinnon fled the scene before officers arrived, according to investigators.

Shortly after, Homestead Hospital staff notified authorities of a stabbing victim in the emergency room.

A be-on-the-lookout was issued, and police said McKinnon was taken into custody just after 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

An arrest report stated that the victim viewed the lineup and identified McKinnon as the person who stabbed him. At the bottom of the lineup, the victim wrote, “Slash my neck over ID,” according to investigators.

Police said surveillance video from the clinic corroborated the victim’s account.

Authorities said he had known McKinnon for about two years.

McKinnon was read his Miranda rights and made a statement that was redacted in the publicly-released report.

The victim’s injuries and condition were not immediately disclosed and a motive remains unclear at this time.

As of Tuesday, McKinnon is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
