Michigan Man Charged After Shooting Girlfriend’s Son in Face During Violent Altercation

Police say two males were shot during an altercation in Hazel Park, Michigan, earlier this week.

The shooting occurred on March 24 at a residence near E. Harry Avenue and Highland Street. According to police, Charles Thomas, 51, is charged with assault with intent to murder, three counts of felony firearm, firing a handgun in a building causing harm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and carrying a hidden weapon.

According to Hazel Park police, a 22-year-old man from Detroit arrived at his mother and Thomas’ home to retrieve his possessions. Thomas and the woman were bickering when the woman’s son stepped in and challenged him.

Police say Thomas reportedly pulled out a revolver and pointed it at the 22-year-old. The man attempted to push the gun away and was shot in the shoulder. Police said the man was shot again in the face.

According to police, the woman’s son moved to another room and pulled out his revolver, shot back at Thomas, who sustained injuries to his finger, wrist, and chest.

Both men drove away from the house and to a hospital.

Thomas was arraigned on Thursday and issued a $500,000 cash/surety bond.

He is due back in court on April 8.
