DETROIT – A person of interest has been arrested in connection with three dead bodies discovered in a burning automobile on Detroit’s west side.
The automobile fire was discovered at around 6 a.m. on Sunday, April 6, at the intersection of 30th and Milford streets. Police said the remains were charred beyond recognition, and they are working with families to achieve a definitive identification.
Investigators are trying to determine if the three died before the fire or were burned alive. Police claimed the man was not participating with the investigation, but he is the ex-boyfriend of one of the three victims.
Detroit Assistant Police Chief Charles Fitzgerald identified the victims as a mother, her daughter, and the girl’s 9-year-old niece.
Investigators said Monday (April 7) that they thought the mother and daughter had been shot.
They allege that the toddler was stabbed in the neck before their bodies were driven to an alley around 30th and Milford streets on the city’s west side and set on fire.
Following the discovery, police say they tracked a person of interest to a residence on Detroit’s east side, where they discovered a 4-year-old kid living alone and unhurt.
The investigation is underway.
