An early candidate for Metro League Player of the Year, and one of Oregon’s top high school football players in the class of 2026, will be headed up Interstate 5 to continue his football career after high school.
On Tuesday afternoon, Mountainside’s Sam Vyhlidal announced his verbal commitment to play college football at the University of Washington.
Committed.

Vyhlidal was a big part of Mountainside’s success last fall, as the Mavericks completed their most successful season in team history. The Mavericks ended the year with an 8-3 record and won the Metro League for the first time.
A 6-foot-4, 225-pound linebacker and tight end, Vyhlidal is considered a three-star prospect by
247Sports
, which also has him listed as the No. 5 recruit in Oregon’s class of 2026. He also had offers from UNLV, Air Force, Arizona, Arizona State and Colorado State, among others.
Vyhlidal was a first team
all-state selection
at linebacker and a second team selection at tight end. He was the Metro League Defensive Player of the Year and was a first team all-league selection on both sides of the ball.
Despite being the
Ducks
’ marquee rival in the Big Ten, the Huskies have been working hard in recruiting high school players from Oregon.
Washington has recently gotten commitments from Jesuit defensive back Elias Johnson and receiver Jace Burton in the class of 2024, Nelson defensive lineman Dominic Macon and West Linn tight end Baron Naone in the class of 2025, and
Lakeridge running back Ansu Sanoe
in the class of 2026.
The Huskies went 6-7 in the 2024 season, eventually falling 35-34 to Louisville in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. Washington will host Oregon on Nov. 29 in the final game of the regular season.
