UK Commit Ashton Hagans Continues to Draw Praise from National Media

Kentucky has a Star on the Way in Point Guard Ashton Hagans

No one truly knows what John Calipari has up his sleeve and the UK head coach pretty much tweeted that message earlier this month after landing five-stars E.J. Montgomery and Ashton Hagans on consecutive mornings.

Calipari hinted that something else could be on the way and all signs point to it being a reclassification and commitment from five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey. If that happens later this week, Kentucky’s backcourt next season would include former five-star Quade Green, along with five-stars Immanuel Quickley and Maxey. That alone is enough, but if Hagans plan to reclassify also works, then lookout.

The 6-foot-3, 180lb guard from Covington, Georgia, is one of the best on ball defenders in the entire 2019 class, if not the best. Regardless, if it’s the 2018 class or 2019, Kentucky fans will love Hagans because of his desire to win and do whatever it takes to make his team successful.

Hagans is currently playing AAU on the Adidas Gauntlet circuit and he continues to impress the national media. Kentucky fans have watched plenty of highlight videos of him breaking guys down off the dribble but it’s his impact on the other end that separates him from other elite guards, as well as his ability to pass first.

247Sports Evan Daniels took notice over the weekend, praising Hagans willingness to defend and pass the basketball. Daniels wasn’t alone, as Dan McDonald of Rivals also praised the future Wildcats ability to make things easy for his teammates, calling him “a star for Kentucky.”
