New NBA Draft Deadline Could Impact Olivier Sarr’s Waiver

College and international players now have a second chance to declare for the 2020 NBA Draft.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday morning that the NBA Draft is set for October 16, with the early entry deadline scheduled for August 17.

This is significant news for the waiver request of Wake Forest transfer Olivier Sarr, who transferred to Kentucky in May.

Kentucky submitted all paperwork for Sarr to be eligible at Kentucky this season, but the decision is still pending.

One key argument in Sarr’s waiver is he didn’t have time to make a decision before the initial early entry deadline. Former Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning, who convinced Sarr to return for his senior season, was fired just hours before the initial entry deadline date.

Kentucky is arguing that Sarr didn’t have adequate time to make a significant decision regarding his future. The NBA’s decision to extend the early entry deadline to August could impact Sarr’s waiver.

If anything, the NCAA has to make a decision soon to give Sarr the option to enter the NBA Draft.
