New Jersey Launches ‘Real ID Tuesdays’ to Boost Access Before Federal Deadline

There will be more meetings at New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission centres on “Real ID Tuesdays” after the federal deadline.

Beginning May 20, about 5,200 Real ID appointments will be open every other Tuesday. You will be able to make those dates through NJMVC’s appointment scheduler on Monday morning.

The NJMVC started “Real ID Thursdays” in the past to try to get more Real ID meetings set up in the months before the deadline. People who need a Real ID right away can also make an emergency appointment.

A News study from April 7–18 shows that only 17% of people in New Jersey have a Real ID. This is the lowest compliance rate in the United States.

Today is the last day to get a real ID.

From May 7, travellers will need either a Real ID or a U.S. passport to get into a government office or go through airport security for US flights.

At a NJMVC Licensing Centre, you will need to bring two forms of proof of address, your Social Security number, and a few other forms of identification to get a Real ID. Follow this link to see what you need to bring: NJMVC.com.

People whose licenses are about to expire in the next three months can also get a Real ID when they go to update their licenses.
