New Social Security Payment of Up to $967 Arrives May 1 — Are You Eligible?

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is getting ready to send out the next round of payments in May. This is part of their plan to keep helping millions of retired Americans financially.

Everyone born between the 1st and 10th of the month gets their deposit on the second Wednesday. Everyone born between the 11th and 20th gets theirs on the third Wednesday, and everyone born after the 20th gets theirs on the fourth Wednesday. This plan makes sure that the distribution goes smoothly.

People who started getting money before May 1997 are still getting paid on the third of every month. But in May, the deposit will be due on Friday, the second, since the third happens on a Saturday.

The SSA is in charge of both pensions and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, which helps low-income people with serious disabilities. Up to $967 for individuals, $1,450 for couples, and $484 for important carers. The amount depends on the size of the family and the conditions of living.

SSI recipients will also get two checks in May: one on Thursday, May 1, for the month of May, and another on Friday, May 30, ahead of time because June 1 is a Sunday. When a payment date falls on a government holiday or weekend, the SSA sends the payment early.

If the deposit doesn’t show up on the expected date, you should wait three business days before filing a claim, since 99% of payments are made electronically and on time.
