New Summer Lineup at Morris Arboretum: Garden Railway, Hummingbird Hut & More

New Summer Lineup at Morris Arboretum Garden Railway, Hummingbird Hut & More

The Morris Arboretum and Gardens is a haven inside the city limits of Philadelphia. It is “Bees, Butterflies and Blooms: A Pollinator Paradise” that will take over this summer.

Stephanie Bruneau, associate director of adult education, smiled and added, “It’s a really great summer to visit here at the Morris!” “We are focusing on a different pollinator each month.”

Moths are the preferred pollinator in July.

“We have interpretive signs throughout the garden, and we have really great programs for all ages, from one to 101,” said Bruneau.

Mini locomotives travel on 19 train tracks at the Garden Railway, which is a meandering route with hills, tunnels, and bridges.

“Isn’t everyone in the Garden Railway a child? “It’s enjoyable to run around and observe the trains, regardless of your age,” remarked Vince Marrocco, director of horticulture.

World pollinators are also present in the terrain at this time of year.

“This little orchid bee is the bee that pollinates the vanilla bean, and its eyes are actually made out of real honeycomb,” Marrocco said.

You’re in for a delightful treat if you take a plane to the Hummingbird Hut.

“Hummingbirds are going to start coming to this all summer long as they migrate up from Mexico, across the Gulf of Mexico,” stated education director Bryan Thompson-Nowak.

Tropical vegetation cover the small house in the center of the large gardens. Activities that teach about the small yet powerful pollinators can be found inside.

“This is us, to kind of raise awareness of hummingbirds and all pollinators that you can really attract pollinators to your home garden,” said Thompson-Nowak.

The Morris offers daily tours in addition to summertime events and seminars, such as Pollinator Fridays.
