Nike
won’t release a corporate responsibility report this year, breaking its practice for the last six years.
Since 2019, the company has published an annual report, typically in March, which provides information about its efforts to leave a lighter footprint on the planet, diversify its ranks and improve working conditions, including in overseas factories.
Before then, going back to 2001, Nike typically produced a report every other year.
The company won’t produce the report this year, but it will release information from the report in a different format, according to a spokesperson, who did not offer specifics on the format but said the change doesn’t reflect a shift in the company’s commitments.
The change in Nike’s reporting comes as companies are being
scrutinized for diversity policies
and investors
pull money from funds
that invest in companies based on their performance on environmental, social and governance metrics.
Bloomberg
first reported
the change in Nike’s reporting practices and noted it’s on an expanding list of companies delaying or canceling reports.
Over the past year, The Oregonian/OregonLive and ProPublica, as part of a reporting partnership, have used the information in previous Nike corporate responsibility reports for stories about the company’s
work to reduce its carbon emissions
, its
use of private jets
,
wages paid to factory workers
and
working conditions
.
