NYC Braces for Thunderstorms and Hail Ahead of Mother’s Day Weekend

New York’s Staten Island AccuWeather says that people in New York City will be able to use their umbrellas this week.

Storms will hit Staten Island starting late Monday afternoon and going through Tuesday.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines said, “This isn’t going to be a great week for doing things outside.”

“It could storm at any time from probably late this afternoon through tonight and even tomorrow during the day,” Kines said. „Heavy rain would be the main so-called threat from these storms.

Some places could get up to 3 inches of rain in the worst case, but Kines said this is not likely to happen.

A meteorologist said that the clouds could bring heavy rain, strong winds, and maybe even small hail.

At the end of the week

The rest of the week will have a mix of rain and wind, though Kines said things might get better on Wednesday and Thursday. It might still rain every day, though.

Kines also said that Thursday should be mostly dry.

AccuWeather says that more rain could return on Friday night, but there is hope for a drying trend over the weekend, just in time for Mother’s Day on Sunday.
