Off-duty Miami-dade Firefighter Accused of Assaulting 70-year-old Man Over Parking Dispute

A 23-year-old firefighter was not on duty when he reportedly harmed a 70-year-old man after a parking disagreement in Miami-Dade County, according to deputies.

According to records, Fernando Herrera, a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue employee since 2023, was facing a felony accusation of aggravated violence against a person 65 years or older.

Miami-Dade deputies arrested Herrera on Wednesday, and he was released on Thursday after the victim reported the attack at Southwest 125 Place and 147 Terrace.

According to deputies, after the senior asked Herrera to use a guest parking spot, Herrera allegedly pushed the guy, who fell and suffered back injuries.

Dade County Circuit Judge Carmen Cabarga was scheduled to preside over the case. His bond was $5,000, and a court ordered him to remain away from the victim.

According to court records, Fernandez’s arraignment hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 4.

Detectives requested anyone with information about this or other incidents to contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 and remain anonymous.
