If you want to center your
summer vacation
on
food and drink
experiences, you don’t have to travel far.
HomeToGo, a vacation rental marketplace, has released its
Taste of Summer Index
, ranking the top 20 destinations in the country “to satisfy both travelers’ wanderlust and tastebuds.” Four of the top five destinations are in Oregon or Washington.
Portland
is the No. 1 foodie vacation destination according to the ranking. HomeToGo shouts out locally grown and sourced ingredients and the thriving
food cart
scene. We’re guessing that events like
The Portland Craft Beer Festival
also helped the city snag the top spot.
No. 2 on the list is Woodinville, Washington, which is on the Sammamish River east of Seattle. The ranking notes Woodinville’s wine country location and says it “overflows with small town charm and world-class tipple.”
The list takes a break from the Pacific Northwest for No. 3, which is Ithaca, New York, another wine country town.
Halibut and chips is the most popular item on the menu at Ship Out, a seafood food cart in Astoria.
Jamie Hale/The Oregonian
No. 4 is back in Oregon:
Astoria
. HomeToGo calls it “a port city packed with flavor” and suggests you try the Chinook salmon and Dungeness crab.
Seattle rounds out the top 5. (You know we have to love
any list that has Portland coming out on top over Seattle
!) The ranking calls the city’s coffee culture a highlight and applauds the diversity of its food scene.
HomeToGo used on their own search data as well as information gleaned from sites like Tripadvisor and tourism board websites to rank the cities on search volume, the affordability of accommodations, the percentage of highly-rated restaurants and the number of food and drink experiences offered.
