Time to stock up on sunscreen and large-brimmed hats – Oregon could be barreling towards a hotter and drier summer than normal.
According to the seasonal outlook
from the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, much of the state has a 50% to 60% chance of having a warmer than normal July, August and September in 2025.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland’s Climate Book, the average maximum temperature for the Portland International Airport in July is 81.9 degrees, the average maximum for August is 81.1 degrees and the average maximum for September is 76.7 degrees.
The warm weather could be combined with less-than-usual precipitation amounts.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, much of Oregon is “leaning below” normal rain levels for June, July and August.
One place where things are still up in the air? The most western section of the state, along the coast, where there are equal chances of below normal, above normal and normal levels of precipitation.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland’s Climate Book, the average amount of rain for the Portland International Airport in July is .51 inches, the average amount of rain for August is .54 inches and the average amount of rain for September is 1.52 inches.
Last July,
Portland experienced its hottest July on record
. And even though August felt cooler in comparison,
it was actually slightly warmer than normal
, too.
Will this summer be even hotter? Only time will tell.
But this week’s warm weather
might be a sneak preview.
