Oregon State Beavers All-Quarter-Century team nominees: Kicker


The Oregonian/OregonLive is compiling a list of nominees for an Oregon Ducks All-Quarter-Century football team made up of players from 2000 through 2024. The final teams will be selected in August.

KICKER NOMINEES

Ryan Cesca


Years:

1999-2002

Record books:

Cesca’s 34 career field goals rank sixth in program history. They came on 54 attempts, resulting in a 63% conversion rate, which ranks ninth. He is tied for fourth all-time for PATs in a season with 46 (2000).

Cesca scored 219 career points, ranked eighth.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Cesca was named first-team All-Pac-10 in 2000 after scoring 85 points to help lead the Beavers to the Pac-10 championship and a trip to the Fiesta Bowl, where they won 41-9 over Notre Dame. Cesca scored nine points with two field goals.


NFL:

Cesca did not play in the NFL.

Justin Kahut


Years:

2007-2010

Record books:

Kahut, out of Clackamas High School, ranks third all-time with 47 made field goals for his career. They came on 64 attempts for a 73.4% conversion rate, fifth all-time.

In 2009, Kahut scored 111 points, tied for fifth all-time with Alexis Serna, while making 22 of 27 field goals. He finished his career with 260 points, sixth all-time.

Kahut’s 119 PATs rank third.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Kahut was named second-team All-Pac-10 in 2009 by the coaches.


NFL:

Kahut did not play in the NFL.

Trevor Romaine


Years:

2011-2014

Record books:

Romaine ranks second all-time with 53 field goals. His conversion rate of 76.8% (53 of 69) ranks third.

Romaine made a program-record 11 PATs during a 2012 win over Nicholls State. His 51 PATs that season remain a school record. His 50 PATs during the following season rank second, as does his career total of 144.

Romaine ended his career with 303 points, fourth in OSU history.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Romaine was named honorable mention All-Pac-12 in 2012.

Alexis Serna


Years:

2005-2008

Record books:

As a sophomore in 2005, Serna made a program-record 23 field goals (28 attempts) while scoring 101 points.

He ranks No.1 in program history for career points for all positions (384), field goals (80), points in a game by a kicker (20), field goals in a game (six), and is tied for No. 1 in consecutive field goals made (15), PATs in a game (14) and points in a season by a kicker (111, Kahut).

Serna ranks second all-time in field goal percentage (.769), and is tied for the record for consecutive field goals in a season with 15.


Accolades/accomplishments:

In 2005, Serna was selected first-team All-Pac-10 and All-American. He received the Lou Groza award, given to the nation’s top kicker.

In 2006, Serna scored 111 points (fifth all-time) and was named second-team All-Pac-10. He received the same honor in 2007

Serna was inducted into Oregon State’s athletic hall of fame in 2023.


NFL:

Serna did not play in the NFL, but he kicked for three seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL.

Kirk Yliniemi


Years:

2001-2003

Records:

His 37 career field goals rank fourth all-time at OSU. He made them on just 43 attempts, resulting in a program-best 86% conversion rate.

His 64-yard field goal against Arizona in 2003 ranks tied for seventh.

Yliniemi’s 15 consecutive field goals made in 2002 are tied with Serna for the most in a season.

Yliniemi holds the record for most consecutive made field goals with 20.


Accolades/accomplishments:

Yliniemi was named honorable mention All-Pac-10 in 2002 when he scored 90 points. He made the second team in 2003 after scoring 103 points.


NFL:

Yliniemi spent one season with the San Francisco 49ers.
