The
Oregon State Beavers
’ star shortstop has a new home in Major League Baseball.
Aiva Arquette was drafted No. 7 overall in the first round by the Miami Marlins in Sunday’s MLB Draft. Arquette shined in one season at OSU after two seasons at Washington.
In his junior season, Arquette hit a team-high .354 with 19 home runs, 66 RBI, and a .654 slugging percentage. He helped lead the Beavers — playing the only independent schedule in the country — to a berth in the
College World Series
.
The 6-5, 220-pound shortstop out of Hawaii is viewed as one of the top collegiate hitters in the country, according to
MLB.com’s scouting report
. Defensively, he had just six errors all season at a notoriously difficult position in the infield.
Arquette was named a second team All-American by Perfect Game and Baseball America, and third team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers’ Association and D1Baseball.com.
“He routinely barrels the ball with good bat speed and a fluid swing, giving him the chance to be an above-average hitter with above-average power, and he could hit 20-25 homers annually as a big leaguer,” the MLB.com scouting report reads.
Arquette was the first Oregon State player to hear his name called in the 2025 draft, with rounds 1-3 airing Sunday. Other Beavers waiting for a possible Sunday call are Gavin Turley and Trent Caraway, among others. The draft continues with rounds 4-20 on Monday.
