The state of Oregon is reminding people who didn’t file their 2024 tax returns by the April 15 deadline that free tax help is still available through mid-October.
The Oregon Department of Human Services’ Tax Infrastructure Grant Program is designed to help lower income Oregonians get up to date on their tax filings, though Oregonians of varying income levels may still be eligible for extra help.
Now is an “excellent” time to file, according to the state, and those who file and don’t owe taxes won’t face any penalties.
Christine Decker, a spokesperson for the Department of Human Services, said the state next year is expecting to issue another kicker and in order to ensure they’re eligible, Oregonians should file their 2024 tax returns.
The kicker
happens in even-numbered years and can amount to hundreds or even thousands of dollars in excess state revenue refunded to individual Oregonians.
The state points out that taxpayers who don’t file returns because they don’t earn enough to be required to might miss out on receiving other refunds. Those include the
Earned Income Tax Credit
and the
Oregon Kids Credit
.
