A Parker man is facing multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, after a biker was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck in northeast Boulder.
Dustin Kelsey, 46, was arrested Wednesday evening after crashing at the intersection of 63rd Street and Spine Road shortly before 11 a.m.
Investigators accused Kelsey of running a red light as he drove north on 63rd Street in a construction zone. According to police, the bicyclist, whose identity is being concealed, was struck in the junction by the pickup truck. Officials said he was scheduled for surgery Wednesday evening.
Witnesses assisted Boulder Police Crash Investigation Specialist Joe Fischer in identifying the suspect car.

“One of our witnesses stated, ‘No, I didn’t see anything, but I have a dashcam.’ “And that dash camera provided us with enough information to pursue some leads,” Fischer added.
Police had a photograph of a white Ford F-150 that they thought was the suspect car. Another indication was found at the crash scene: the driver’s side mirror had come off after the bike was injured.
“And through the serial number, we were able to identify the year, range, make and model of the vehicle,” Fischer told reporters.
Kelsey faces charges of:
- Felony: leaving the scene of an accident that caused substantial bodily injury.
- Misdemeanor careless driving resulting in injury.
- Misdemeanor reckless driving resulting in significant bodily harm to a vulnerable road user
- Misdemeanor: running a red light.
- The pleasant weather on Wednesday encouraged more bicycles to ride. Later that day, after hearing about the incident, Ben Irons walked his bike to the stoplight.
“It does not appear to be a planned act. But not to linger around and accept responsibility; there was a life, someone’s existence that was jeopardized,” Irons remarked.
