Pennsylvania’s property or rent tax rebate program was made to help qualified residents cover costs. Those who qualify now have more time to send in their applications.
The program is for people with disabilities aged 18 and up, widows or widowers aged 50 and up, and homeowners or renters aged 65 and up. All of them have to make a certain amount of money to be eligible. The goal of refunds, which can be as much as $1,000, is to make paying for rent easier on people.
The deadline has been pushed back to December 31, 2025, by Governor Josh Shapiro’s government. This means that more seniors and people with disabilities can get this financial help.
The lottery and gaming in the state bring in the money. The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue says that this help is very important for many older people who are having trouble with money. You have until June 30 to send in your application by mail, online, or in person.
While at an event at the Cumberland County West Shore Senior Centre, state officials officially announced that the date would be pushed back.
Pennsylvania has homes for older people.
Jason Kavulich, the secretary of aging for Pennsylvania, said that since the program was expanded, even more Pennsylvanians have been able to get this important help. He encouraged people to apply for and use this help.
“Affordable housing is still one of the most important issues for our older adults.” “This program helps more people stay in their homes and be involved in their communities,” said Jason Kavulich.
There have been big effects from the program. 522,434 rebates worth $319.2 million were given out last year, which is a big jump from 2022, when only 405,493 refunds worth $192 million were sent out. This difference comes from the program’s recent growth, which was led by Governor Shapiro and received backing from both parties.
Nearly 400,000 applications have been sent to the Department of Revenue so far in 2025. This is more than the record number of applications received at the same time last year. In this new step, the government thinks that 41,000 more people will join the program.
