Pilot Killed After Plane Crashes in Tuscarawas County Field, FAA Investigating

UHRICHSVILLE, Ohio – According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, one person died after a plane crashed in Tuscarawas County late Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say the 1973 Cessna 310Q fixed-wing multi-engine aircraft crashed in a Mill Township farm field near Uhrichsville shortly after 5 p.m., less than 30 minutes after taking off from Harry Clever Field airfield in the New Philadelphia region.

Residents interviewed by 3News reported hearing the plane’s engines “cutting out” before it hit the ground.

The plane’s sole occupant, who has not been recognized, was killed.

The Cessna was engulfed in flames, prompting the New Philadelphia and Warwick Township fire departments to respond. Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s deputies were also on the scene.

According to the OSHP, both the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have been contacted and will undertake their investigations.
