Popular Oregon coast campground to reopen reservations in time for holiday weekend

For the Fourth of July weekend, do you not have a campsite? You’re still in luck.

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department said Monday that Nehalem Bay State Park, located in Manzanita on the north Oregon coast, will reopen the majority of its campsite on July 1 following a seven-month hiatus. At 6 a.m., reservations will be accepted for the 300-site oceanfront campsite. Oregon State Parks, Reserve America, Friday.

People will have the unique opportunity to reserve a beachside vacation weekend campground in the latter part of the season thanks to the influx of new availability. Coastal campgrounds are usually reserved months in advance for the summer, while last-minute and same-day reservations do occasionally arise.

They should move quickly when the campsites reopen on Friday morning.

In December, state park officials closed Nehalem Bay for a number of maintenance improvements, such as resurfacing the entrance road, installing new facilities, upgrading the water and electricity, and adding more campsites. The campground has remained closed even though the park’s day-use area opened in May.

Only a portion of the campground, such as loops D, E, and F, the bicycle and hiker campsites, and the horse camp, will reopen on July 1. According to park officials, loops A, B, and C will reopen in around a month.

The Oregon State Legislature authorized $50 million in bonds in 2021 to finance construction at Nehalem Bay, as well as maintenance at seven other state parks.
